A LITTLE BIT OF BJJ MAT ETIQUETTE
Come in with a positive attitude, prepared to learn, and prepared put in work. We dont accept mediocrity and neither should any of our students. Leave your ego at the door and respect all of your training partners. We are all here to improve ourselves and work together as a team. Affiliations and belts mean nothing when you come into our gym, what matters is your character and how you treat others.
Personal hygiene is taken very seriously in the world of martial arts. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a full contact sport in which you spend the majority of time in very close quarters with your training partners/opponents. Basic Hygiene rules apply at all times to prevent infections and illness spreading throughout the dojo.
First and foremost, please use a gumshield shield sparring. Even though we are not striking, we are doing a full contact sport and on the rare occasion accidents may happen. For the sake of a £20 gum shield it could save you hundreds down the line at a dentist.
No Gi Jiu Jitsu uniforms are very straight forward. A simple Rashguard, Compression Shirt are ideal and can be purchased from several stores across the internet. You can even nip down to your local Sports shop and pick up a thin base layer.
Other popular bits of kit include a pair of shorts, generally board shorts, MMA/grappling shorts or just general workout shorts are fine.
“THE FULL KIT GUY”
Then you get the full kit guys who will wear a rashguard, a pair of shorts and a pair of spats underneath. Once again SPATS can be found in any local sports shop or online store. They are constructed of the same material used on baselayers which is generally 90% polyester and 10% Spandex.
All of the above are great for no-gi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu as they absorb moisture and you won’t be at risk of having any garments ripping in combat.
